Practical Assessment - Instructions for Assessor
Conditions of Assessment: Assessors must satisfy SNR/ASQA assessor requirements.
Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Where assessment of competency includes third party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to the required outcomes of the unit. Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.
Demonstration Requirements:
HLTAID001: Trainee is to demonstrate that they follow DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines; and Responded to at least one simulated first aid scenario contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting.
UETTDRRF06: Trainee is to demonstrate T1 Emergency procedures for the rescue of a victim from a live LV panel; and T2 Emergency procedures for the skills required for the rescue of a victim from a live LV panel.
Assessor is to schedule an appropriate time and duration for the Trainee to demonstrate the assessment task/s and associated questions.
Oral Questions: Questions must be asked while the demonstration is taking place or if appropriate directly after the task/s have been completed.
Flexibility: Assessor to modify activities to cater for variations in workplace context and environment.

Practical Assessment - Instructions for Candidate
To meet the requirements of this unit of competency, you will be required to successfully complete the Practical Assessment. The assessor may be also asked to provide additional evidence to attach to the Practical component. This checklist should be completed in the following ways: -
(Satisfactory)- Indicates demonstration to an acceptable industry standard with application of required knowledge, problem solving, following safe work practices and meeting the workplace responsibilities and expectations as required.
(Not Yet Satisfactory)- In this case, reasons should be given to justify a decision of being unsuccessful.
Re-assessments should be carried out only on that particular area where the participant were deemed unsuccessful and further evidence is required. The trainer or assessor needs to observe you demonstrating the following essential skills in your workplace or in a simulated environment. In order to achieve competency in this unit, every box should have a tick.
Conditions of Practical Assessment: The assessor / trainer will provide the instructions, if you are unclear about what you have to do, clarify instructions with your assessor /trainer before commencing practical tasks. You must be observed independently, and all activities demonstrated satisfactory. Practical tasks must be undertaken with correct footwear, high vis clothing and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that may be required as appropriate.
The Practical Assessment may be stopped immediately at any time if you act in a way that puts yourself, other learners, the assessor / trainer, property or equipment in any danger. If this happens, rescheduling of the assessment will be at the discretion of your assessor / trainer.

Section A - Recovery Position | DRS ABCD

A1 - Check for Danger.

A2 - Apply gloves to control infection.
-
A3 - Check for Response using AVPU.
-
A4 - Call for help or ambulance.
-
A5 - Check the casualty’s Airway.
-
A6 - Clear the casualty’s Airway.
-
A7 - Check for Breathing using correct head tilt technique.
-
A8 - Look, listen, and feel for ten (10) seconds.
-
A9 - Recognise casualty is breathing.
-
A10 - Move furthest arm (9-10 or 2-3 o’clock position).

A11 - Place closest arm over chest.
-
A12 - Lift closest knee.
-
A13 - Roll casualty using hip and shoulder roll while controlling casualty’s head.

A14 - Correctly tilt head and check Airway.
-
A15 - Check for Breathing.
-
A16 - Look, listen, and feel for ten (10) seconds.
-
A17 - Conduct a casualty assessment / secondary survey.

A18 - Communicate relevant information to emergency services (assessor / trainer).
-
A19 - Treat casualty respectfully, e.g. ask for consent, maintain confidentiality and follow ARC guidelines.

THIS PART OF THE PRACTICAL MUST BE PERFORMED ON AN ADULT MANNEQUIN, AND AN INFANT MANNEQUIN.

Section B - DRS ABCD

B1 - Check for Danger.

B2 - Apply gloves to control infection.

B3 - Check for Response utilising AVPU.
-
B4 - Send for help or ambulance.
-
B5 - Check the casualty’s Airway.
-
B6 - Use correct technique to clear vomit from casualty’s airway.
-
B7 - Check for Breathing utilising correct head tilt.
-
B8 - Look, listen, feel for ten (10) seconds.
-
B9 - Demonstrate safe manual handling techniques when moving equipment and the casualty.
-
Section C - CPR
-
C1 - Correctly position hands in centre of chest.
-
C2 - Demonstrate effective compression depth (1/3 chest).
-
C3 - Demonstrate correct rate of compressions (100bpm).
-
C4 - AED sourced where available.
-
C5 - AED pads applied correctly.
-
C6 - AED instructions followed.
-
C7 - Rotation of responder with minimal interruption to compressions.

Section D - Rescue Breathing
-
D1 - Correctly tilt head.
-
D2 - Correctly lift the jaw.
-
D3 - Carry out mask-to-mouth rescue breathing.
-
D4 - Carry out mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing.
-
D5 - CPR carried out at correct ratio 30:2 for a minimum of 2 minutes.

Section E - Handover
-
E1 - Perform handover when medical assistance arrived.
-
E2 - Provide summary and completed First Aid / Incident Report Form (attached).

E3 - Verbalise chronology of treatment.
-
E4 - Report management provided to casualty.
-
E5 - Treat casualty respectfully, e.g. ask for consent, maintain confidentiality and follow ARC guidelines.

Section F - Low Voltage Rescue Kit
-
F1 - Identify Low Voltage Rescue Kit.
-
F2 - Check contents of LV Rescue Kit.
-
F3 - Inspect LV Rescue Crook for visible faults.
-
F4 - Conduct air test on insulating gloves.
-
Section G - Prepare work area (LV Safety Observer & Electrician)
-
G1 - Perform risk assessment of work area (Take 5 / Slam Form to be completed, attached).
-
G2 - Identify potential hazards verbally to assessor / trainer; and risks are controlled according to OHS/WHS workplace procedures and work instructions.

G3 - Follow procedures, and identify electricity isolation point and hang tag:

G4 - Establish communications.

G5 - Determine appropriate location for LV Rescue Kit and AED.
-
G6 - Ensure all other live equipment is covered with non-conductive material and isolated according to workplace procedures.

G7 - PPE checks, insulated gloves donned and work commenced according to workplace procedures.

Section H - Communications lost with Electrician
-
H1 - Safety observer shouted “Respond or I will isolate”.
-
H2 - Isolation performed and Safe Approach Distance maintained following workplace procedures.
-
H3 - Follow workplace procedures using rescue crook to correctly and safely remove casualty from panel and lowered.
-
H4 - Correct use of fire blanket demonstrated.

Section I - Casualty Removal
-
I1 - Move casualty to a safe area and contact emergency services for medical treatment.

I2 - Demonstrate correct manual handling techniques.
-
I3 - Commence Primary Assessment (DRS ABCD / CPR (if required) and life threatening injuries according to workplace procedures).

I4 - Explain importance of Incident Report & Investigation Form to Supervisor (trainer / assessor).

I5 - Tagging and isolation maintained, access to work site controlled until handover to authorities’ / emergency services.

I6 - Ensure all tasks were completed according to OHS/WHS workplace procedures and policies, and anti-discrimination and regulations were practiced and observed.
